Lophopetalum multinervium Ridl., Kew Bull. (1931)

Latin for 'many veins'.

Description
Emergent tree up to 65 m tall and 95 cm dbh. With knee-roots. Stipules early dropping. Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, tertiary venation very fine and dense. Flowers ca. 6 mm in diameter, white-pinkish to yellow, placed in panicles. Fruits ca. 107 mm long, green, dehiscent capsules with wind dispersed winged seeds (seed completely enclosed by wing).

Ecology
In (peat)-swamp forests up to 1700 m altitude. Rarely on dry sites. In secondary forests usually present as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.

Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, Central- and East-Kalimantan).
